Tom Kirkman, Tuai Lovejoy, Ollie Morrison and Jamie Johnstone were down at Haredown last weekend running a training camp. These camps are all about giving groms time with pro riders. A little instruction together with some motivation and inspiration really helps riders progress and take their riding to the next level. With the World Freestyle Championships only a month away, and the National Series running – it is a great time to be learning some new tricks.
Moscow has just hosted the Russian Adrenaline Games. Mountainboarding yet again featured as a discipline. The jump was great being about 2m high and 6m from jump to knuckle. Nicky pulled off a load of moves but eventually game second. See the highlight video below. There are some super stylish moves.
Whilst en route to the ATBA round at Court Farm the Cornish contingent of the MBS Pro Team stopped off at fellow team rider Joe Dickson’s house for a skate on his mini ramp. This is a bit of a masterpiece and is kept dry year round as it is in a barn. After that it was up to Court Farm for some practice and filming before leaving Mick to do his thing at the competition.
Tom Kirkman, Tuai Lovejoy, Mick Kirkman and Jamie Johnstone headed over to Out To Grass mountainboard centre. It is fellow MBS Pro Team rider Tom Reads local spot but one they had not managed to visit in a while. Unfortunately it was really windy on the day meaning it was hard to do anything amazing. The riding is still pretty smooth though and much fun was had.
It has been a while since the team got to ride with Joe Dickson. He was away the whole winter, then came back in May with a swollen ankle. Now he is back and riding again. Tom Kirkman, Ollie Morrison, Jamie Johnstone, Tuai Lovejoy and Joe Dickson all rode Bugsboarding on the bank holiday weekend. To mix it up the team hit all kinds of features including everything from the rails and jib stuff, to the boardercross track to the pond gap. Enjoy the video.
After the weekend we all headed out to Suffolk for the Suffolk Show with the MBS Pro Ramp – taking mountainboarding to the masses!
Nicky is a super talented mountainboarder. He has unfortunately been suffering from a knee injury on and off for a couple of years. Now though it all seems to be going good and if anything the time out had improved his riding! Funnily enough Tom Kirkman said a similar thing about his time out. Nicky is about to head off on an epic mountainboarding road trip round the world this summer so I am sure we will be seeing a lot more from him. Part of the European tour will involve stops in the UK for the Worlds and a couple of other events.
The Battle of Bugs event last year hosted the mountainboarding world freestyle championship. This year the rain held off and the competition happened in glorious sunshine as opposed to the dark. The riding was at a very high standard with Tom Kirkman competing for the first time in 2 years after spending time out due to injury. He won the competition by some margin showing exactly why he was worthy of his own board – the MBS Pro 100 Tom Kirkman.
Bugsboarding was as always immaculately groomed and everything was set up perfectly for the event. We hope this years event will be bigger and better!
Thanks a lot to Jack Johnson of BFC fame for the edit!
Push Kiting is a kite school owned and run by MBS Pro Team Rider Dave Ursell down in Frinton on Sea. Video editing is a side thing but Push Kiting have been responsible for releasing some of the most progressive riding videos ever seen. It has been a bit quiet recently as things tend to slow down over winter but now Dave and friends are back with a new video for the summer. As always the riding is top notch and features a number of guest riders including fellow MBS Team Riders Lewis Wilby and AJ Philipsen.
Young Silver can mountainboard like no other. In his silver suit he is streamlined and cuts through head winds like a hot knife through butter. This is his first appearance this year but I am sure there will be many more. It was not a bad event to appear at either – the Suffolk show was hectic. Being in the school holidays it was full of kids who screamed like we have never heard screams before. At one point the crowd took a particular shine to Ollie Morrison and began to chant “Ollie Ollie Ollie” as well as the usual “do a backflip!”. The MBS Pro team did not disappoint and performed well with Ollie pulling off a corked 7 in every demo.
We have already had Mick teach you laid out backflips in the quarter pipe and now we have him showing you how to do boardslides. The whole rail and board slide aspect of mountainboarding is really growing and we love that. Once you have watched this video head down to your local centre or this weekends Cream Teas and Jam event.
