ATC’s Big Adventure – mountainboarding freeride video

Tom, Ollie and Mick spend a day freeriding in the lovely cornish countryside. This is all about terrain and natural features, not kickers and rails. This is more what mountainboarding is about to most people and an area of the sport which is often overlooked. Many riders only ever ride in centres, which while good should not be the only places you ride. Enjoy the video.

Matt Brind in Project Spring

Matt Brind is last years ATBA overall champion and this video shows why. He is riding really consistently and pulling some huge moves with a lot of style. Matt is one to look out for again this year as he tries to defend his title. The smooth video editing is done by Theo Acworth who also takes some sick photos.

Tom Read at Out To Grass

Tom Read is without a doubt one of the most consistent and stylish mountainboarders in the World. He regularly pulls off all kinds of mad stunts whilst always looking solid and fully in control. He rides mostly at his local mountainboard centre in the Malvern Hills – Out To Grass. This video shows Tom and a couple of friends riding on a new jump built at OTG.

East Anglian Game and Country Fair Mountainboarding Demo

On the 24th and 25th of April the MBS Pro Team were in Norfolk at the Norwich Showground for the East Anglian Game and Country Fair to showcase mountainboarding. We did this show last year and it is always nice to be invited back. This time we were next to the dancing sheep (I kid you not) and the grandstand where they had a number of displays from a welsh fly fishing guru to some guy shooting fruit and veg with a shot gun. Kite pro and fellow MBS Pro Team rider Lewis Wilby who lives locally dropped by on Saturday to say hello and watch the show.

The demos went really well – everyone was on form. Highlights from the weekend include: Jamie J and Tom K getting some tiger face paint one day, Tuai going into the front of the bus, eating huge amounts of carvery and the 6 man rail train.

Dutch Kitelandboarding Tour

The 1st stage of the Open Dutch Kitelandboarding Tour took place on the Beach of Ijmuiderslag in the north of the Netherlands, on Friday a fun and practice session was held in 15-20 knots. On Saturday the official part of the competition took place with clear skies and winds ranging between 10-15 knots.

With participants from France, Poland, Holland and Belgium, the participants field was very all-round. Forest7 who organized the event put up a nice show with lots of room for the competitors to show their tricks in a 10 minute time frame.

Judging was on overall performance and style, combining new-school and old-school tricks. Unfortunately the wind died during the start of the 2nd block of heats.
There for a tie was created, meaning 3 ex-equal 1st places.

Results in the men’s division:

  1. Jelmer van der Kist (Flysurfer/MBS)
  2. Yusca Balogh (Flysurfer/MBS)
  3. Jouke Reiffers

Results in the masters division:

  1. Kris Wils (Peter Lynn)

The 2nd stage of the 2010 Open Dutch Kitelandboarding Championships will take place on 25th and 26th of September, also on the beaches of Ijmuiderslag, the Netherlands.

See photos of the event.

Jelmer and Yusca were riding the MBS Pro 90 kiteboard.

Mountainboard Camps for Girls

Boardology have been organising mountainboard girlie camps for years now and they are always well attended and loved. We really recommend these to any girl looking to get into mountainboarding or progress their riding a bit. This is one of the few opportunities to spend time with and ride with a load of other girls.

This is the 4th year of DIRT FLIRT Mountain Boarding Girlie Camps and we’re delighted to announce that we’ll be heading to Haredown Mountain Boarding Centre from the 6th-8th August as well as to Hales Superbole in Chester from the 9th-11th July this year.

Haredown is situated in the heart of the South Downs in West Sussex, only a few miles away from Chichester, not far from Portsmouth, Southampton, Brighton and Guildford and just over an hour away from London. The centre is set in 20 acres of sloping grass and woodland, with runs for absolute beginners through to some of the UK’s best boarder-cross and freestyle facilities.

The DIRT FLIRT Mountainboarding Camps are open to all levels of rider; from newbies to advanced, so whether you have never set foot on a board before, or you just want to improve on your freestyle without any blokes about, this is the best place to do it! Some of the UK’s best female riders will be there guiding you down the hills making sure you have an exhillerating weekend. Please note that the emphasis is ALWAYS on having fun and trying something new in a friendly and super-encouraging environment.

Mountainboarding in Japan

Japanese riders come over to the UK from time to time, but for the most part do not get the chance. Their riding style has developed slightly differently and most of the riders look super stylish. Space is tight in Japan making mountainboarding centres tough to come by. For this reason there is a lot of riding in skate parks. This is a super stylish video and a nice change from the usual riders in the usual spots.

Mountainboarding with the Red Bull X Fighters

A month or so ago now Tom Kirkman was flown out to Russia to exhibit his skills at Breakthrough 2010 in Moscow. This is a Government funded event which combines all kinds of different extreme sports under one roof. Everything from skateboarding, bmx, and mountainboarding to snowmobiling and the motocross shenanigans of the Red Bull X Fighters.

This is the first video from Tom on his time in Russia. More will follow shortly.
