In a continuation of our mission to go through all our old tapes (we are nearing the end now) we have unearthed some clips of a demo we did at Extreme Kiteshop. These guys have a shop on a turf farm which is an amazing inland flying site and highly recommended for anyone in the midlands. The turf is kept short and there is a bit of a hill on one section for some beginner hill flying too. For inland the wind is as clean as it gets.
There was no wind at all so kiting was not happening on this day. Things were made a little more exciting by combining the rail with the quarter pipe. There were however some pretty epic space hopper races towards the end.
A bit of winter riding at the ATC backyard with Mick and Tom Kirkman. With all board sports it is all about practice. The more effort you put in the more you get out and it shows with these guys. They practice whenever they can and constantly learn new moves.
The ATBA need to know interest levels for the UK Downhill Championships and also the European Downhill Tour competition to be held at Cheddar. Please contact them asap to let them know if you are interested. Contact the ATBA by emailing info@atbauk.org.
The ATBA-UK Downhill Championship and British leg of The European Downhill Tour is being held in Cheddar, Somerset on the 12th and 13th June.
The competition will include a practice day and then one-man timed descents with the fastest rider in each category winning. The campsite has a swimming pool, adventure playground…, skatepark, BMX track, restaurant and bar.
We need to get an idea of how many people are interested in coming to this event to ensure we have adequate facilities available. Please reply to this message to let us know if you’re planning to come.
From time to time we all like wasting a bit of time watching some videos online or want to show a friend more of our sport. Over time a number of different people have worked on videos for us. Jack from the BFC made that documentary on the MBS Pro Ramp. Mark Berry made a number of videos including the KiteFreeStyle series and one of the most watched mountainboard videos of all time “A Day at Bugs”. In recent times our very on Tom Kirkman has been pumping out videos almost weekly showing what he gets up to.
We categorize all our posts on this website and file any videos under the video category. You can see these all by going to the blog page, then selecting the videos category on the left hand side.

There is no other rider as talented as Lewis Wilby when it comes to land based kiteboarding. He comes up with no end of innovative tricks. This video gives us a totally new insight into what it looks like from his perspective as he works on his low level and ground based tricks on a light wind day.
Rails are a pretty new thing on mountainboards. Relatively few riders can actually do much on them other than grind down them on their trucks. Sure all mountainboard centres have a few little rails, but kids can hit these within an hour of first stepping foot on a board. It is not really riding rails in the way skateboarders or snowboarders do. This video seems Tom Kirkman and his bro Mick trying out various rails in their back garden and experimenting a bit. Rail riding is pretty technical and all about balance. Unlike snowboarding, we have wheels which can get caught and send us flying, so we have to be super careful. Video by ATC Productions.
I am not sure exactly on the date of this one. My guesses are 2007 though. It was one of the first major MBS Pro Ramp displays at the Scouts Jamboree and as you can see despite the damp weather it went down a storm. Scout events are always fun to perform at. This was from back in the day when Alex Downie was a big part of the team.
