The snow has come and hit the UK over the last week or so causing all kinds of havoc. After getting up to the top of Cleeve Common (adrenalin rush in itself) Marcus Woodbridge and Greg Chilton (ATB Shop Team Riders) got some shots of them riding the MBS Pro 90 in the snow.
We have been having a bit of a clean up in the warehouse and come across a bunch of complete wheels including Rockstar Pros fitted with T3 tyres and also Twistars with T3 tyres. They are priced a bit lower than the sum of the components and we have already done the hard work of assembling them for you. Grab a bargain whilst you still can.
Tom Kirkman has been in Brazil sunning himself for a couple of weeks and now cant deal with the UK weather. Here he is indoors with Ollie Morrison – keeping their skills up over winter.
This is an issue that seems to confuse a lot of people. Countless times on the various forums and at events people have discussed decks and what pop really is. It gets mixed up with flex and stiffness. We have therefore asked some of our riders and R&D team to contribute answers.
AJ Watkins:
Pop is the amount and speed of return from the deck that has been pre loaded by the rider.
Joel Lee:
1. The sudden burst of energy that a deck releases after a rider “loads” it. 2. The spring effect that a rider gets from a deck off the lip of a jump.
Tom Kirkman:
When I say pop I dont mean flex – they are two completely different things. For me its the way a board responds as you jump off the lip. For example on a soft, flexy deck you lose half your monentum/power when you hit the transition because it sags so much, but people think these decks are poppy. Your legs should be doing the jumping not the board because flexy pop is unpredictable and will invariably throw you off.
Lewis Wilby:
Pop is when a rider uses the deck of a mountainboard to increase the height of jump by putting pressure/ flexing the board out of shape then allowing it to return to its original shape. A board with more pop would be the one that reflexes up the fastest with the most amount of power. For me the best pop is from a board that is stiff but with the right amount of load will flex down and push me up as fast as possible.
Another video from our massive plastic bag full of tapes we never got round to editing but now have. This was filmed in 2008 at the NEC Ski and Board Show. As you can see the MBS Pro Team were on top form and showing what can be done with a mountainboard. Another thanks to Tom Kirkman of ATC Productions for the edit.
After years of wanting them and months of developing them we finally received stock of our all new MBS Pro Gloves. These are by far the best gloves available today for mountainboarding (in our opinion anyway!). Features include:
The guys at ATC Productions have been pumping out videos in the last few months. This video was filmed in the summer when Tom Kirkman and Tuai Lovejoy took to the roads in the faithful Berlingo and toured all over Europe. On top of Winterberg they also visited the Belgium Open at Wanyi and a round of the German Competitions.
To help fund their travels and to satisfy their creative needs, ATC Productions are now selling some of their t shirt prints too. Have a look at ATC Productions T-Shirts.
We took Jamie on just over a year ago. He was one of those riders we never saw much but impressed us every time we did. He is by far one of the most stylish riders out there and is really talented. His style is heavily influenced by his skateboarding background. In the last year we have started taking Jamie along to some of our MBS Pro Ramp demos where he has shown he has the ability to perform when needed and play up to the crowd too. This is a difficult transition for many riders who are used to riding by themselves or in small groups. The pressure created by a crowd can be truly immense, and conditions are frequently not ideal. Only the top riders stand a chance.
Jamie has also been performing well at competitions coming 4th overall in Elites and 1st in U18 in the UK series in 2009. His local newspaper the Carmarthen Journal have recently interviewed him on his views of mountainboarding. Read the article here.
The ATBA in the UK have announced what dates the competitions will be held on in 2010. There is no mention on locations just yet but I am sure they will follow early next year. The website has had a bit of a revamp too and now includes a mailing list. I suggest you join it if you want to be kept up to date and it is especially useful for last minute changes to schedules etc.
Here are the dates:
International Series – Round 1 will be on the 1st and 2nd of May.
International Series – Round 2 will be on the 29th and 30th May.
Downhill Championship will be on the 12th and 13th June.
International Series – Round 3 will be on the 17th and 18th July.
International Series – Round 4 will be on the 28th and 29th August.
I know we have way over 1k happy kiters and mountainboarders who love MBS. Please tell all your friends about us so we can get our fan count to over 1000. At this point we are at 961. Lets see if we can do it by the end of the day!
