After the first round of the ATBA championships at South West Mountainboard Centre got rained off the provisional date for the 4th round got allocated to Haredown. That event is fast approaching with the titles still up for grabs. Matt Brind is looking like a very strong candidate to take the overall title. Joe Dickson, the defending champion is still in with a shot of keeping his title.
We have been involved with many demonstrations and exhibitions to promote mountainboarding round the UK and Europe. We have now created pages which showcase what we do and how we do it.
MBS Mountainboarding Big Air Show
We provide a package combining professional management and organisation, the best riders, and a well built and safe demonstration ramp. Our ramp set up is fully checked by health and safety standards and is regularly maintained. A full check up is carried out before each demonstration. The team are experienced and know how to work the crowds.
Our hire and ride team are all ATBA-UK qualified instructors and have first aid certificates. Our fleet of boards is modern and well maintained. We provide full protective equipment in a range of sizes. We can be flexible in terms of how we run the area and have done a wide range of events catering for a wide age range. We have equipment for anything from age 7 upwards.
The MBS team were out in force for the mountainboard demo at White Air 2009 in Brighton. The ramps provided worked well and allowed the riders to really step up their riding. The mountainboarding demos attracted some of the biggest and loudest crowds of the weekend. Here is a quick snippet of action from the practice day from Tom Kirkman and co of ATC Productions. A full write up from them will follow.
Tom Kirkman and the guys at ATC Productions have been in charge of delivering video evidence of the weekends riding at Bugsboarding. They have delivered! Fast and slick editing in order to bring you the best of the action as soon as possible. It was a great event and the BFC did really well running their first series of events. The fun element of the event really showed and you could tell everyone was having loads of fun. We are really looking forwards to next years events!
Mark Berry has been pumping out quality videos for years now. This is no exception. We talked about the BKSA Blackpool event already, but I thought the video justified a new post altogether. Filmed by Dan Maroni, and edited by Mark Berry, also featuring riding from Lewis Wilby.
Hang time in Wonderland is the latest from the team at Push Kiting. You can see MBS Team riders Dave Ursell, Lewis Wilby and AJ Philipsen in action down at Frinton. The moves in this video as as huge as ever and more technical than ever! There is a lot of experimental riding and testing of different riding styles. The video really showcases what the MBS Pro 90 kiteboard was really designed for. Mixed in there is a bit of lifestyle footage which shows what kiting is really about – having fun, and spending time with your buddies.
Brakes on mountainboards has always been a divisive issue. The truth of the matter is that most people learn and ride without brakes. Mountainboard centres have large open slopes with no obstacles and there is plenty of space to powerslide to a stop. If you are riding trails or tracks then you will not have that space to throw a big powerslide in. This is when brakes come in handy. Steeper runs especially benefit from the additional stopping power.
In terms of boards with brakes we offer 4 options. For junior riders we have the MBS Atom 85x. This is a pretty basic board but perfect for small riders who would find larger boards simply too heavy. For entry level riders we have the MBS Atom 95x. This is a full size adult board, but only of entry level specification. It is not suited to bombing down alpine tracks. The big mountain option is without doubt the MBS Comp 95x. This board comes complete with everything you need including a V5 brake system, 9″ wheels and all our most bombproof components.
The MBS Pro Team will be heading up to Tyneside on 24th – 25th October for Xperience 09 – an extreme sports festival. Alongside the demo ramp where the Pro Team will be performing their backflips, spins, frontflips etc we will be operating a mountainboard “have a go” session. This will give people the opportunity to try out mountainboarding and receive instruction from ATBA qualified instructors.
Some members of the MBS Pro Kite Team will also be present demoing kiteboarding on the beach!
Matt Brind took first in the boardercross and also the freestyle last weekend at the second round of the British mountainboard championships. Joe Dickson took second and Josh Maddocks took third. Despite being eligible to compete in the under 14s, Mick Kirkman competed in the elite category and placed 6th!
The freestyle competition is pretty heated now between defending British champ Joe, and Matt. The final round will be held at Haredown mountainboard centre on the 10th – 11th of October.
